About Us

Sievers Equipment Company was founded in 1971 by Walter and Ruth Sievers. Walter was a cash crop/dairy farmer and was approached by Allis Chalmers to open an equipment dealership. He decided, along with is two sons, Gary and Jim, to sell the herd and start selling tractors. The first Sievers Equipment Co. location was in Edwardsville, IL, but business grew rapidly and it wasn't long before a new facility was needed. In 1975, Walt and Ruth purchased ground near the intersection of Interstate 55 and Route 140 in Hamel, IL, and erected a brand new building to serve the ever-growing customer base of Sievers Equipment Co. This is the same property the dealership operates from today. In 1978, the Steiger line of 4wd articulated tractors was added to the product offering to compliment Allis Chalmers farm equipment.

The 1980's proved to be a hard time for the agricultural industry and for many ag manufacturers. Although Sievers Equipment Co. remained strong, it's supplier, Allis Chalmers was forced to sell-out to Deutz-Fahr in 1985. It was about this same time that Sievers Equipment Co. had the opportunity to acquire the International Harvester dealer contract, just as IH was merging with J.I. Case to form an all new company: Case IH.

Sievers Equipment Co. now had a new flagship line in Case IH, which continues today to be the dealership's core agricultural brand. In 1982, a new facility in Litchfield, IL, was opened and operated until 1994 when additional Case IH dealer territory was purchased and another brand new facility was erected in Hillsboro, Illinois. Sievers Equipment Co. stuck with Deutz-Allis through their acquisition by Agco Corporation until 2002 when the dealer contract was dissolved.

1996 Marked a significant point in Sievers Equipment Co. history as well when Case IH unveiled an all-new 4-tracked articulated tractor: the Quadrac. This tractor, paired with Reynolds dirt scrapers, which were also added to the product offering, gave Sievers Equipment Co. their first entry into the construction market. These tractors and scrapers would prove to be immensely successful and established Sievers Equipment Co. firmly into the construction equipment market. Building on this success, a third location was purchased in Greenfield, IL, in 1999.

In 2003, after several additions and expansions to the original facility in Hamel, Illinois, a new 15,000 sq. ft. repair shop was erected to handle newer, larger equipment.

The success of the Case IH Steiger tractors and Reynolds scrapers brought the desire for Sievers Equipment Co. to add a full-line construction equipment brand to their product offering. In June of 2005, the JCB Construction Equipment line was added and gave the dealership the products it needed to support its growing construction customer base.

February 9, 2007 was a day in Sievers Equipment Co. history that will not soon be forgotten. Around 2:00 pm, the smoke alarms sounded and a fire broke out above the parts department. By the time employees had a chance to react, it was too late. Within minutes, flames engulfed the entire building and spread to the attached repair shop. By that night, the 35 year old facility was reduced to rubble and ash. The fire had destroyed the entire main building, leaving only the two unattached repair shops.

Sievers Equipment Co. operated from temporary facilities for the next 18 months as clean-up, planning, and construction took place on a brand new facility. On September 22, 2008, Sievers Equipment Co. officially opened the doors to its new, state-of-the art facility. The new building is over 65,000 square feet and boasts many new features and upgrades, all aimed at provided customers with the highest level of service possible.

In March of 2010, Sievers Equipment Co. expanded once again and acquired two additional locations in Auburn and Carlinville, Illinois.

The first stand-alone JCB store was opened in 2013 in St. Peters, MO to support Sievers’ growing construction equipment business in the St. Louis market. Operating under the name JCB of St. Louis, A Division of Sievers Equipment Co., it became the 6th dealer location and focuses solely on JCB product, as well as Exmark commercial mowing equipment.

In May of 2017, Sievers Equipment Co. acquired its 7th location with the purchase of Hargrave’s in Jerseyville, IL. This location expanded the footprint of the Kubota tractor and residential lines, and also added full-line Kubota Construction equipment.

Since the beginning, Sievers Equipment Co. has been a family-owned and operated business. Not only has the dealership grown over the years, but the family that supports and operates it has grown as well. The third generation of Sievers family members are now active in the business. Gary's sons, Brian, Greg, and Mark Sievers, along with Jim's son, Tim Sievers have all entered the business and are highly involved in daily operations.
